Keep in mind that these steps have worked for me in the past with different applications. If that fails, I'd first force-quit the Mazda Toolbox and then software-eject the SD card.Īfter a computer restart, I'd then check for "Toolbox" updates and try again. If the process has stalled for more than 15 minutes, I'd first try cancelling the backup. The backup should only read the SD card not write to it. On my computer, the backup process completes in less than 2 minutes (running Windows 10 on a Core i7, 32 gb ram, 512 gb ssd primary hard drive, 4 tb secondary hard drive). I am afraid to cancel the back up process as the site warns me of bricking my Nav card. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you perform the backup process at this time. Should your SD card become corrupted during the map update process, you will need the backup to restore your information. You will be prompted to create a backup of the SD card contents. Insert the SD card from your vehicle into your computer to connect it to Mazda Toolbox. How long is it supposed to take to create a back up?Ĭlick the icon on your desktop to open Mazda Toolbox. ![]() I have done as instructed up to this point, but it has been 20 minutes with no progress to the next step. If the car is reading from and writing to the card it needs working space and as map updates get bigger the spare space was becoming non-existent. The latest replacement is 16 Gb which has masses of spare space. The original and first replacement were 8 Gb cards which were almost completely full. No problems since but I wonder if the problem was the card size. Later the car went to the dealer who installed new car software and replaced the card. When the car also trashed that I was able to restore it from an image on my MacBook. The car trashed the replacement while on holiday so the backup came in handy. I did this as a safety net when the car trashed the original so i made a copy of the replacement. Note that this card is locked to the car in the same way as the original so it is not a way to make cash by selling them on eBay. Both the car and Mazda toolbox will recognise the card and the maps on it can be updated in the same way as the original. Now use disc utility to restore the card with the image made from the original. Remove SD card and replace with blank SD card of same size. Now in the Disc Utility program make an image of the SD card. First set the read only slider on the card and then plug it to the mac. ![]() I use a Mac but I guess PCs can do similar. Copying the files from one card to another does not work but you can clone the whole card. I used a windows 10 machine.ĭespite what has been written you can make a backup of the Mazda nav card. You don't need any special software to do it, though a mac might screw something up. I'll do the original card first, in case it doesn't like to update multiple cards, then make a new backup if needed.Įdit: To make a backup, just copy all the files from the card to your computer, then move them over to the new card. Whenever the next update comes out, I'm going to see if Mazda Toolbox will update both the backup and original. My backup works fine in the car, and I keep the original in my desk drawer. If you're worried about bricking the card, back it up. I copied all the files from my nav card to another 8gb Class 10 SD card after it VIN locked and I installed the first update. Since my dealer has a new service manager, I may try to get them to install the update for me, gratis, but it's not that critical where I drive, so I may wait until the next update. I'm understandably reticent to try it again. ![]() This was after I followed Mazda's instructions to the letter. The dealer gave me a new one under warranty, but said Mazda wouldn't pay for another one if it happened again. The last time I updated my maps (with the Sept 2016 version), it bricked my nav card.
